Lindalee A. Lawrence, President
Lindalee Lawrence is the founder and President of Lawrence Associates. Lawrence Associates meets the certification requirements of the IRS Intermediate Sanctions regulations regarding executive and trustee compensation, and regularly provides assistance to nonprofit management and Board members. Ms. Lawrence serves as an outside expert to the IRS. We have successfully assisted clients in passing audits and resolving enforcement actions by government entities like the IRS, state Attorneys General, and so forth. Lawrence Associates' innovative compensation consulting was featured on NPR's All Things Considered - Employee Engagement, Profitability and Increased Pay in a Tough Economy.
Ms. Lawrence presents regularly. She is scheduled to speak at the Exponent Philanthropy Annual Meeting in October 2020. She spoke on Lean quality and process initiatives at the 2013 Annual Northeast Shingo Prize Conference. Through our website, we provide a variety of free educational webinars about foundation and executive compensation and other matters. Ms. Lawrence is frequently cited by the media. She was quoted in the Chronicle of Philanthropy's 2014 Annual Executive Compensation Review, "As the Economy Heats Up, Nonprofit CEOs See Pay Rise," and "Some Former CEOs Still Have Lucrative Deals at Nonprofits".
She was quoted in the Boston Herald, "Pay raises are in short supply in coming year," the Indianapolis Star, "Gov. Daniels to quadruple salary as Purdue president," Boston Business Journal, "Hospitals' million dollar salaries," the Cincinnati Business Courier on hospital executive compensation, and monster.com on 2014 trends. Lawrence Associates contributed to a Life Sciences article in the Boston Globe. A Boston Globe Editorial supported the Office of State Auditor and Lawrence Associates' findings and recommendations regarding the Office's compensation approach. Ms. Lawrence was quoted in Modern Healthcare's annual review of executive compensation - "Feeling the squeeze," by Joe Carlson. BNA Daily Tax Report quoted Lawrence Associates in "IRS Audits Harvard, Other Universities in Probe of Exempt Purpose Rules" regarding the executive compensation implications of audits.
Prior to forming Lawrence Associates in 1989, Ms. Lawrence was Manager of the Healthcare, Government and Financial Services Industries Human Resource practice for KPMG Peat Marwick in Boston. She spent four years with William M. Mercer, Incorporated, responsible for consulting on group employee benefits, medical cost containment and plan design for employers and Taft-Hartley plans. Ms. Lawrence served as an Associate Director with the Massachusetts Division of Insurance, and drafted HMO and dread disease regulations. She also served in senior administration with the Department of Public Health.
She holds an MBA from the Wharton School and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. Ms. Lawrence is a WorldAtWork Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), is certified in Lean in Healthcare (an approach to operational process quality and efficiency), and received the Certificate of Completion through MIT Professional Education for "Tackling the Challenges of Big Data." Lawrence Associates is a sponsor to the Council on Foundations, to Exponent Philanthropy (formerly the Association for Small Foundations) and to hospital associations, We are a sponsor of Exponent's 2013 Foundation Operations & Management Report. Ms. Lawrence is a member of WorldAtWork, National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers (NNCG), Association of Healthcare Human Resources Administrators of Greater New York (AHHRA), and Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
